St Mark's School Council

St Mark's School Council

St Mark’s School Council is made up of 2 children from each class from Year 2 to Year 6;10 school councillors.

At the beginning of each school year, children stand for election to the School Council and are invited to give a short presentation to their peers, outlining the reasons why their classmates should vote for them. Elections then take place in a class ballot.

The School Council meets once a month for half an hour to discuss items on the agenda with the support of Mrs Wilcox. If other children have something they want the School Council to discuss, they can approach their class representative who will bring the matter to the attention of the Council or they can put their ideas into a suggestion box-which is emptied prior to meetings and appropriate items are added to the agenda.

The Council updates the school on their achievements using both the display board in the hall or during Friday 'Celebration Assemblies'.

The Head Teacher also asks for support in implementing new initiatives; when interviewing new staff members and councillors are often consulted as 'pupil voice' members.

The Council have class meetings once a month and use surveys and questionnaires to gather the ideas and thoughts of the pupils in school on a variety of issues-  playtime equipment.

Mrs Mc Kenna oversees the work of the School Council and facilitates their meetings. Councillor's from Year 5 and 6 act as clerks to minute meetings.

We have recently been to London to visit The Houses of Parliament and our local MP, Catherine Mc Kinnell (see below)

St Mark's RC Primary School Councillors visited London on April 24th. A fantastic opportunity to visit the Houses of Parliament and meet our local MP Catherine Mc Kinnell.
