The Wider and Enriched Curriculum

In addition to the formal curriculum that we offer at St Mark's, we provide a wide and varied range of experiences that come together to enrich our children's education.

We offer a range of extra-curricular activities and clubs, run by either school staff or outside providers, giving children the chance to try a range of different activities and mix socially with others. Specialist teachers and Sports Coaches visit frequently to enhance our children's knowledge and skills.

We endeavour to take learning outside of the school grounds, taking advantage of the wonderful variety of opportunities provided by our local area. The children are also given the opportunity of spending a few days learning away from home on residential during their time at St Mark's, such as the outdoor activities at Kielder.

Links are established with our high schools with reciprocal visits by children and staff enjoying the challenges of Science, ICT, Language, Maths and sporting workshops. Transition visits to our high schools begin with many activities in Year 5 and Year 6.

Our children also enjoy meeting other children from other local Catholic schools through our Diocesan partnership.

Each year, children will have the opportunity to take part in Christmas or Easter productions and to help to lead Acts of Worship for other members of the community.  Our children are also encouraged to take on various roles and responsibilities both in and out of the classroom. e.g. acting as monitors, Mini Vinnie's, Sports Leaders, Playground Buddies, School Councillors and Buddies: Year 6 with Reception Class; Year 5 with Nursery.
